In this era of information overload where most is irrelevant, clarity of insight has become a form of power. We must never underestimate the force of human stupidity, which in many ways has become humanity’s most potent driving force. However, the power of wisdom and stupidity is imbalanced, and the achievement of peace is no easy task; it requires the joint efforts of many wise individuals.
The greatest challenge we currently face is that our ability to control the world around us, including ecosystems, far exceeds our wisdom to thoroughly understand these systems. In essence, it’s extraordinarily easy for humans to manipulate these systems, but extremely difficult to comprehend them.
The three major challenges of the 21st century that I have mentioned before — nuclear conflict, climate change, and technological disruption — are all global in nature. No single country can resolve these issues alone. No country can prevent nuclear conflict on its own, no country can stop the worsening of the climate, and no country or political power can independently regulate the development of artificial intelligence and biotechnology.
If humanity hopes to survive and thrive further into the future, we need global cooperation and collective action.
